Heres some ramblings of our travels to Tribal Ford...
It was a momentous event...in 2005 we traveled to the very first Tribal
Ford, arranged by Farida dance. The location itself is truly
breathtaking. Ford castle, near Berwick on tweed is a fabulous setting.
Not only could we pretend that we were princesses for the weekend, but
it was where we discovered Domba!...inspirational...give us more!
Barbara was the privileged one to return the next year. Due to our huge
jealous streak, and Di and I's inability to bring ourselves to say it,
this was refered to as "the F Word" for a full 12 months!
2007: Hurrah! We're going back! Would it be the same? Would we be
disappointed? No Domba this year, but lots of well known teachers from
the US..hmmm
We were not disappointed. After arriving late on the Friday evening, we
were straight into "Cheeky Cyber Combos" with Dawn O'Brien. The
Standard
was very high, and looking around the class I was beginning to think id
bitten off more than I could chew. With no time to think, argue and get
out of it, and barely time to change we were told we were performing. Oh
no!...Say Shava Shava was chosen, in tribute to our beloved Sam from
Domba. It was enjoyed by all im thankful to say, and we were known as
the "bollywood" ladies for the rest of the weekend.
The brilliant Solace played for us after the student performances, and
far too much wine was consumed!
Saturday started for me with "Anatomix" by Ayse Cerami..A fantastic
workout for the abs, and concentrated on just a few moves. Having
chickened out of the "extreme layering" class (There was a few poor
souls who attempted this and feedback was that it was very good!) we all
attended "Exploring Dynamics" with Elizabeth Souza, a lovely dancer
and
impressive teacher. More classes in the afternoon. whilst Di and I went
to the brilliant Rachel Lazarus Soto's Asian class, Barb tried to
recreate her recent holiday to Kenya with an African class.
Dinner on the Saturday night was exquisite Mediterranean cuisine,
followed by some teacher performances and live music from solace...and
the odd glass of vino or two....
Still one day to go..Argh! System overload! Would I remember one move on
Monday? So, here we are at 1am in the morning, out in the corridor,
videoing our moves from that day...Its a comedy classic and well worthy
of a posting on U tube! (The divas would kill me!)
"T'achi" and Deidre MacDonald's "hips with attitude" were
the order for
Sunday morning, followed by "Tribal Veil". Now, If you've ever seen
Fay
Lowe perform her veil dance, its inspirational...I was determined to
have a go, and Di having taken a double veil class at joy (Why?!)
decided that it wasn't going to beat her. All I can say is that I am
even more in awe of Fay now, after my attempt that can only be described
as "women with washing"..Keep practising Claire...
Our final class was "hip hop" with the legendary Geneva. Fast a
furious,
but brilliant! Who'd have thought it, hip hop with Egyptian moves! And
we've got Barb liking Eminem.
We returned home tired, but refreshed. Its no longer "the F Word",
we
can speak of Ford once more. Enlightening, belonging, inspiring Ford...
(and Celt Arabia's "Done!" isn't it Barbra!)
