Return of the Shimmychicks
Following last years hafla, Barbara, Diane and I decided atmosphere is one thing, but comfort and the ability to be able to move is essential at these types of events. Being brave we booked Subrooke Village hall earlier in the year, a slightly bigger venue and a sensible option this time we thought. Preparation and planning commenced, but what seemed like "plenty of time" soon turned into shear panic and phrases like "OMG! how many weeks?"...although maybe not quite as politely put. There were dances to finish, costumes to make, programmes to do, not to mention the whole veil thing for Celt Arabia and tickets to sell...
There was absolutely no need to worry. What can we say...? A year on and you do it for us again! Our wonderful fellow dancers gave outstanding and polished performances. Each of them unique and individual and what great variety. The dancers I've seen before still never cease to amaze me (You know who you are... Fay and Jackie, veils and wings so impressive!), the new routines were inspirational and a joy to watch, and the Alice Cooper number...Pauline, come back to Lincolnshire again soon, brilliant! We really appreciate all the hard work and practise that you ladies have done to make the night a success.
Thank you to Karen with her Egyptian Dancer souk, to Pauline and Asif with Q'ar bodyart and their souk, and to James our long suffering DJ for dealing with our Diva requests and CD emergencies. To Phil Crow for the wonderful tickets, Dave McCracken for the programmes, Banet El-raqs for the detailed review in their newsletter and of course Mark of LBD for his pictures.
To,Terry, Barbara's husband and Chris, Di's fella, and my kids for not only their help with setting out and packing away the hall but for putting up with us practising and being slightly obsessed with belly dance...
Which leads me to a personal thank you note....Our compare, and new shimmyCHAP, my husband Nigel. Well done and Thank you.....So, for a repeat performance of Kajereree please send LOTS of fanmail addressed to Nigel at www.shimmychicks.co.uk and we just might convince him to don on his dancing shoes again!!
NOTE : We are experiencing technical difficulties putting up the Hafla pictures and videos - we will get it sorted shortly so please visit this site again soon to see these
